In July 2020, the Finançor Group took a historic step by entering the food distribution business through the acquisition of the companies that own twelve Solmar stores—in São Miguel, Pico, and Santa Maria—and a Recheio-branded cash & carry in São Miguel. This decision was supported by a strategic partnership with the Jerónimo Martins Group that proved transformative: through an ambitious investment and modernization program, all stores were converted to the Pingo Doce brand, the benchmark brand in the Portuguese food retail market, bringing Azorean consumers a differentiated offer in price, quality, and variety.
Since then, the Finançor Group has been consolidating and expanding its presence in this sector, establishing itself as a leading operator in food distribution in the archipelago — in retail, through the Pingo Doce brand, and in the wholesale channel, through the Recheio Cash & Carry brand, serving traditional retail operators and the HoReCa channel. The expansion to new islands reflects the ambition to bring a higher quality, more competitive shopping experience closer to the needs of more Azoreans, contributing to the dynamism of the regional economy as a whole.
Pingo Doce – Finançor Distribuição Alimentar
Founded in 1983, Finançor Distribuição de Alimentos, Ltda. adopted its current name in 2020, following its acquisition by the Finançor Group. The company is jointly owned by the Finançor Group (80%) and Jerónimo Martins Group (20%), and is responsible for operating the Pingo Doce brand in the Azores archipelago.

The company, founded in 1976, began its activities as a wholesaler and retailer and, later, in 2000, opened a Cash & Carry establishment located in Ponta Delgada. From 2011, following a partnership with the Jerónimo Martins group, the establishment began operating under the “Recheio Cash & Carry” banner. The company was acquired by the Finançor Group in 2020, the year in which it adopted its current name, and the partnership with the Jerónimo Martins group was deepened with an investment in the share capital.
