Innovation is a central element in the trajectory of the Finançor Group, reflecting a culture based on vision, commitment, and the ability to constantly adapt to new challenges.
In an island territory like the Azores, characterized by geographical dispersion, limitations of scale, and logistical challenges, innovation plays a crucial role in the Group's competitiveness, sustainability, and resilience. Within this context, Finançor focuses on research, development, and innovation as drivers of modernization, operational efficiency, and value creation throughout the entire value chain.
Through participation in collaborative initiatives and projects, Finançor seeks to transform knowledge into concrete solutions, promoting the continuous improvement of its processes, products and services, and reinforcing its relevance in the sectors in which it operates.
The Finançor Group's research, development, and innovation strategy is based on five cross-cutting pillars that guide the Group's transformation in a consistent and integrated manner throughout the entire value chain.
We believe that the creation of sustainable value results from cooperation between companies, scientific institutions and public entities, contributing to the development of innovative solutions with real impact.
Finançor is committed to collaboration and open innovation, and is available to integrate consortia and research, development and innovation projects at regional, national and European levels, providing a set of skills and assets relevant to the development of collaborative projects:
We are committed to actively contributing to the success of the projects we participate in, ensuring technical and operational involvement, sharing of relevant knowledge and data, and a focus on practical application and creating impact. Get in touch!
H2BLUE – Integration of Green Hydrogen for the Decarbonization of the Aquaculture and Fisheries Value Chain
The H2BLUE project aims to accelerate the integration of renewable hydrogen into the aquaculture and fisheries value chains by developing and validating solutions for its production, storage, and utilization in island and maritime contexts. With activities centered in the Canary Islands and the Azores, the project addresses applications across the entire maritime value chain, promoting greater resource efficiency and reduced dependence on fossil fuels. In the Azores, Finançor will play a key role in preparing for the future adoption of these technologies, participating in the assessment of renewable potential and local energy needs, and leading studies for a renewable hydrogen production unit with oxygen recovery, helping adapt these solutions to the specific conditions of island and outermost regions.
LIFE4FARMS – Innovative nature-based solutions for the elimination of nutrients and veterinary pharmaceuticals from livestock agricultural runoff
LIFE4FARMS is a European project that aims to develop and demonstrate nature-based solutions for treating wastewater from livestock production, targeting the simultaneous removal of nutrients, veterinary medicines, pathogens, and antimicrobial resistance genes. Finançor will host the main demonstrator at its facilities in the Azores, where a constructed wetland will be built.
JOULIA – Electrification of industrial processes using induction and microwaves technologies
The JOULIA project aims to develop innovative electric induction and microwave heating technologies, increasing energy efficiency and electricity use in medium-temperature industrial processes—such as compound feed manufacturing or biscuit production—for which alternative commercial solutions do not yet exist. The solutions will be optimized using digital models and validated at an operational maturity level (TRL 7). Finançor will host the development of new technologies within its manufacturing processes, providing technical support and a commercial perspective to enable the electrification of these processes. The project promotes energy transition, reducing fossil fuel dependence and strengthening European industrial competitiveness, with the collaboration of 16 partners from 7 EU countries, including research centers, technology providers, and the chemical and food industries.
AlgaeFusion – Autochthonous microalgae and cyanobacteria biorefineries for animal nutraceutical feed and cosmeceutical product development
The AlgaeFusion project is a research and development initiative applying biotechnology to the agro-food sector by using microalgae and cyanobacteria native to the Azores to develop feed with nutraceutical properties. Developed in partnership between the Gaspar Frutuoso Foundation and Finançor – Agro-Alimentar, S.A., the project is built on a circular economy model, promoting the utilization of local resources, industrial innovation, and knowledge transfer from academia to industry, contributing to value creation, sustainability, and skilled employment in the Autonomous Region of the Azores.
MAXBOV – Uncovering the genetic diversity and local adaptation of the Catrina breed for sustainable livestock production
The MAXBOV project, developed in a consortium with the Biotechnology Center of the Azores (CBA-UAç), focuses on researching the native Catrina cattle breed and its gastrointestinal microbiome in comparison with the Holstein Friesian breed, emphasizing feed efficiency, methane emission reduction, and livestock sustainability. Finançor will host part of the trials through the Altiprado farm, providing technical support, feed analysis, and a commercial perspective. This involvement allows for a deeper technical understanding of the bovine gastrointestinal microbiome to develop innovative compound feeds, strengthening sector competitiveness and contributing to its social, economic, and environmental value.
