Animal Welfare

At the Finançor group, as part of our responsibility policy, animal welfare is one of the areas in which we are committed to applying best practices and fully complying with all applicable legislation. Aware of the responsibility that comes with being a leader in the production of pork, poultry and eggs in the Azores, we highlight the following facts:

  • In milk production, we participate in the "Happy Cows" project, where animal welfare is one of the main requirements.
  • In our beef cattle production, we fully comply with all legal regulations, and a portion of our activity involves grazing.
  • In poultry farming, we have integrated all legal provisions relating to the animal welfare of laying hens in cages from the very beginning.
  • In pig farming, the company fully complies with all animal welfare regulations for pregnant sows and fattening animals in all its breeding and fattening units.

Within the Finançor Group, activities are developed in various subsectors of animal production.

Animal welfare certification

In October 2024, Altiprado – Empresa Agro-Pecuária da Achada das Furnas, S.A. received the Welfare Quality certification for Animal Welfare, an independent certification developed by the Institute of Agrifood Research and Technology of Catalonia (IRTA), in collaboration with Neiker-Tecnalia and the Basque Institute for Agricultural Research and Development.

Based on scientific protocols validated by the European Union, the certification stands out for its rigorous evaluation and control of animal welfare quality. For Altiprado, the largest dairy farm in the Azores, this recognition demonstrates the quality and respect for the welfare of dairy cows, contributing to the strengthening of production in the milk supply chain.

With this certification, Altiprado has established itself as an example of excellence in the agricultural sector, allowing it not only to care for animal welfare, which is reflected positively in the quality of the milk, but also to reinforce consumer confidence.
